Can I work as a medical doctor after completing these programs? Does the succesful passing of the MSc program Experimental and Clinical Neuroscience entitle to treat patients in psychotherapy?
No, these programs aim to teach and guide scientists that want to research and work within neuroscientific fields. It does not qualify graduates to work independently in a practical clinical setting. If this is your goal, please refer yourself to study programs in human medicine to become a doctor or psychology or medicine to become a psychotherapist.
Does the bachelor course of Neuroscience have application restrictions?
Yes. General information about the minimum grade requirements (GPA) can be found at the central student guidance center (zentralen Studienberatung). Furthermore, you can compare these values with the grades of previous admission rounds (NC-Ergebnissen des örtlichen Vergabeverfahrens).

How many students apply for the master program each semester?
Of course, this number varies. The number of applicants grows with each semester and reached values over 50 in the winter semester 2023/24. .
I am currently studying Medicine or a similar subject, is a transfer possible?
Yes, transferring is possible dependent on open spaces and your previously completed courses. In order to enter a higher semester, the chairperson of the program must verify your previous achievements. Thus, official records of your course work need to be given to Mrs. Pieczewski (examination office, “Prüfungsamt”). Important: the processing time for this procedure is long, so you must turn in these documents at least 4 weeks before the application phase ends. Is it possible to study this two bachelor’s programs at the same time?
Two bachelor programs with grade-based application requirements (GPA) cannot be studied in parallel. One should always keep in mind that studying two programs at the same time is not recommended, due to prolongation of each degree.
When were the neuroscience programs in Cologne first established?
The B.Sc. program was founded in the winter term 2003 and the M.Sc. in the winter term 2004.
What types of positions/careers do graduates of these courses now have?
The degrees qualify graduates for professional work. The working fields include (e.g.,): basic teaching, the pharmaceutical industry, scientific publishing, and coordinative positions in neuroscientific organizations. The master’s degree additionally allows students to apply for Ph.D. positions and generally to work in more technical positions.
Are the M.Sc. modules only taught in English?
Since the summer term 2019 courses are only taught in English.
